DoIP

DoIP (Diagnostics over Internet Protocol) is a protocol that carries vehicle diagnostics over Ethernet instead of traditional CAN-based links.

Modern vehicles with high-bandwidth electronics use Ethernet backbones, and their diagnostic sessions — especially programming — run over DoIP. Tools and VCIs must support it explicitly.

Why it matters

Like CAN FD, DoIP support separates current diagnostic hardware from ageing stock: programming a recent European vehicle without it is often impossible.
